Not sure How Many Boxes You Need?
The amount of boxes you need will vary based on the size of your home as well as how much stuff you plan on moving. While we offer competitive pricing for our boxes, the fewer you need, the more money you save!
One of the best ways to save on moving costs is to reduce how much you bring to your
1.5 16 x 13 x 13 inches
3.0 18 x 16 x 16 inches
24 X 18 X 18 inches
18 x 18 x 16 inches
40 x 4 x 31 inches
UP to 50 inches TV
18 x 21 x 47 inches
5.2 18 x 18 x 28 inches
25 x 27 x 27 inches
3 x 13 x 13 inches
Unnecessary knick knacks
15 X 12 X 15 inches
14 X 12 X 12 inches
After you have whittled down your belongings, you can then start calculating how many boxes you will need. The smaller your home the less boxes you will need. So if you live in a small studio apartment, you probably will only need around either 12 large boxes, 15 medium boxes, or 18 small boxes. Great Movers will supply you with two wardrobe boxes for free when you use our moving services! If you’re not sure how many boxes you will need, call us up and ask one of our customer service representatives.
Safety is Our Top Priority
While restrictions have been lifted on COVID mandates, we are still monitoring and adopting strategies for federal COVID and Monkeypox laws to protect you and our employees. All of our movers have received their vaccinations and boosters. We can present vaccination cards on site for all the crew members performing your move if your building still requires it. All you need to do is let us know the requirements at booking. And, of course, we take the temperatures of every crew member daily before the start of their shift. Anyone showing symptoms are sent home and cannot return without a negative COVID test from a professional.
Besides this, we also take the following precautions:
- Daily sanitization of our trucks
- Providing disposables gloves and hand sanitizers for each move
- Socially distanced moves
- Keeping our foremens and movers up-to-date on the latest federal and state mandates
What You Get From Our Moving Service
Some moving companies specialize in the basic moving service. While that’s usually what the majority of our customers need, we also offer many more options to ensure your move is easy and stress-free. We’re always happy to work with you to make sure we can get you from point A to B as safely and efficiently as possible. Plus, even if you only hire us to move your stuff, we’ll make sure to treat you and your belongings with the utmost care.
Our residential moves are our most popular service, which means we pretty much know how to move everything from grand pianos to delicate china. We’ve seen and done it all. With that said, we’ll be able to better serve you if you give us a detailed breakdown of everything you want to move. If you are moving large, bulky furniture we will need to bring on our more experienced team members to make sure the move goes off without a hitch. Of course, we’ll go over all of this over the phone during your initial call so you can provide all the necessary information.
When you hire us as your residential movers, we go above and beyond just loading and unloading your boxes from our truck. Naturally, we make sure everything is placed and stacked on the truck to minimize damage to your items, especially your fragile things. Beyond that, we also provide:
Three wardrobe boxes for your hanging clothes free of charge. These do need to be returned after your move!
- Mattress covers
- All necessary tools and supplies
- Mattress pads
- Wall and floor protectors for your old and new buildings
- Disassembly/reassembly of basic furniture
- Uninstallation of window AC units
- Dismounting of TVs
All of this is included in the cost of our quote! We take our job seriously, which means we invest in only the best tools of the trade. Our trucks are constantly maintained and inspected to ensure they are up to industry standards. And all of the supplies and items we use for the move are of the highest quality. You won’t see any loose or broken tools with us!
Need storage or someone to pack your things for you? Sure, you can find other companies to do it for you, but that’s extra work and research, which means more stress. And do you really want to add onto your already busy workload? Luckily, Great Movers offers plenty of add-on services to help you out such as:
- Storage- we have climate-controlled storage units that have 24/7 surveillance for short or long-term rental. And of course, we’ll help move your items to and from storage.
- Packing and unpacking – hire us to do partial or full packing of your belongings. Our movers are trained to handle the most delicate items and know how to pack efficiently.
- Plastic bin rentals – perfect if you don’t want to deal with cardboard boxes after you move into your new place. Rent as many as you like. We’ll drop off the bins when you’re ready and pick them up once you’re done unpacking.
You can also purchase your moving supplies with us. We’ll deliver them directly to your apartment so you don’t have to lug them from the store. The supplies we give you are the same ones our movers use so you can rest assured that you’re receiving high quality supplies

Our goal is to make things easier for you. Besides helping you get the best packing supplies in NYC, we can also give you some expert advice. While we can’t transform packing from a chore to a fun experience, we can offer some tips to make it easier. Here are some packing tips from our moving crew that helps them pack and move efficiently.
1Buy more materials than you think you need
okay, we’re not just saying that because we sell packing supplies. Moving boxes fill up quickly and you want to avoid overstuffing them. Not only does it make the boxes heavier, it can also reduce the durability of the boxes and lead to tears. This tip also applies to other supplies such as bubble wrap and moving blankets. Paying for these upfront will be cheaper than replacing damaged items.
2Consider using specialty boxes
While the standard boxes are great for almost everything, certain boxes might work better for different items. We offer a range of specialty boxes such as china dish boxes, TV boxes, file boxes, lamp boxes, and more.
3Pack your lesser-used items first
It will probably take some time for you to pack everything up even in smaller places. Since you’ll still need basic supplies available while you pack, consider first packing away non-essential items first that you won’t need for the last week in your old home and first week in your new home.
4Make an inventory of all your items
this way you can keep track of everything during the move and immediately see if a box went missing. At Great Movers we require an inventory list from all our customers so we can both keep track of your items.
5Wrap fragile and sharp items before packing
you can use bubble wrap or go for a more DIY option and use blankets, clothes, towels, etc. The downside of the DIY option is that if something breaks, you’ll have to deal with glass or ceramic pieces in your clothes or sheets.
6Leave your clothes on hangers
It might sound counterintuitive, but sometimes you should sacrifice packing space to make your life easier. So instead of taking all your clothes off the hangers, folding them, and placing them in boxes, either cover them with trash bags or use the wardrobe boxes we provide.
